Meet the Artist

Originally from the Deep South, Susan Poitevin came to Kansas with her family in 2001 and has been drawing inspiration from the Flint Hills ever since. For the past 20 years she has managed The Brown Rabbit Studio on the picturesque bank of Mill Creek in Paxico, Kansas. Here she maintains a gallery for her landscape paintings and offers classes and private lessons year round.

Susan received a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of Southern Mississippi in 1970. She taught painting and calligraphy at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS for twenty years, and guided prisoners through art therapy in Madison County. She conducted all-day painting retreats on the grounds of her antebellum home for ten years where participants could come for creative refreshment. These painting excursions were featured on the cover of The Mississippi Magazine.

Her art has been featured in Victoria Magazine and her studio has been designated a "Favorite Place to Visit" by Kansas Magazine. She has received regional awards for her work which can be found in private collections throughout the United States.  Susan's paintings are available through The Brown Rabbit Studio in Paxico, which serves as a gallery for her work, and as a gathering place for painting classes which she offers year round.  Her fine art prints and gifts can also be found online at fineartamerica.com.
